Our Instructors: Krav Maga, Judo and BJJ

Kinetic Zen’s teachers are also dedicated students. We care about our chosen topics and train regularly, and we also make sure our coaching CPD is up to scratch. Nobody is resting on their laurels. Abbie leads our BJJ programme and Adrian is our Krav Maga and self defence lead. The rest of the coaching team is on our Meet the Team page. Every instructor holds an enhanced DBS and other basic standards like first aid and safeguarding certification.

Head instructor: Adrian Jackson

Credentials: Krav Maga Black Belt | Judo 1st Dan

Adrian Jackson, 360 Krav Maga black belt and BJA Competitive 1st Dan Judo, head instructor at Kinetic Zen in Finsbury, London
  • Krav Maga: Adrian holds a 1st Degree Black Belt in 360 Krav Maga, awarded by Alan Predolin. His grading was attended by BJJ pioneer Chris Haueter, one of the original “Dirty Dozen,” among the first twelve Americans awarded a black belt by the Gracie family, and MMA legend Marco Ruas, champion of UFC 7. He teaches a fluid system built around movement, situational awareness and adaptability rather than rigid memorisation.

  • Judo: Adrian earned his BJA Competitive 1st Dan in 2026. Judo gives our self-defence training its stand-up grappling and its understanding of balance and leverage.

  • How Adrian coaches: Real-world self defence, taught with care. Martial arts and self defence need to be safe and welcoming for everybody, including people with traumatic experiences. Adrian is a long-standing advocate of trauma-informed training for coaches and has completed Trauma Informed and Sensitive Teaching Essentials with Your Self Defense Experts. His coaching style is calm, observant and precise, making complex ideas accessible at any fitness level.

Lead BJJ Coach: Abbie O'Toole

Credentials: BJJ Black Belt | 25 IBJJF medals

Abbie O'Toole, BJJ black belt and multiple IBJJF Open gold medallist, coaching at Kinetic Zen in Finsbury, London

Abbie is a BJJ black belt with 25 IBJJF medals across purple, brown and black belt, 10 of them gold, including golds at the London, Paris, Lisbon and Rome International Opens. Her Rome gold came in the Open class against bigger opponents, which is the whole point of the art: technique and leverage over size and strength. She competes at the highest level.

  • Black belt: Abbie was promoted to black belt in 2024 by Roger Gracie himself, and also competes and teaches at Roger Gracie Academy alongside coaching here.

  • Coaching style: Calm, empathetic and precise, which makes high-level technique learnable. Abbie is a leading voice for women in the sport, focusing on technical survival and control, in a safe, ego-free room where people of any experience level can learn real grappling.
